LASTMA warns of traffic delays while recovering a fallen gas tanker

Due to ongoing operations to recover an overturned gas tanker involved in an accident earlier on Monday, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has warned drivers to anticipate a temporary closure of the Chisco–Victoria Island corridor.

Adebayo Taofiq, the director of the agency’s Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, signed a notice disclosing this.

Operatives and other emergency responders are now on the scene performing recovery operations, according to LASTMA, and they reserve the right to close the main carriageway at any time to maintain safety.

“In light of the ongoing operation, the entire main carriageway will be temporarily closed to traffic at any moment to allow for the safe, quick, and professional recovery of the gas tanker and to prevent any secondary incidents during the process,” Taofiq stated.

The organization urged drivers to follow traffic cops’ diversionary directions and asked for their cooperation and patience.

“As coordinated efforts are being made to complete the evacuation operation within the shortest possible time and restore normal traffic flow, motorists are therefore strongly advised to exercise patience and cooperate with LASTMA officials and other emergency responders on the ground,” the statement stated.

The Lagos State Government continues to prioritize driver safety, LASTMA noted, adding that more information will be given after the evacuation is finished.

According to PUNCH Online, a tanker in Niger toppled on its side in a single accident on October 21. Some locals then proceeded to the spot to remove the gasoline.

Many residents were killed as a result of the explosion, and many survivors are being treated in the hospital.
