Just months after being released from prison, Vybz Kartel asked his longtime lover Sidem Öztürk for her hand in marriage, and now they are officially engaged.
On Tuesday, November 5, the dancehall musician promised to never leave her side in an Instagram post that included a video of the moment he got down on one knee.
Using heart and ring emojis, he added, “It’s Official #1Wife.” “I made a proposal while incarcerated and in #RealLife. I will always be there for you, sweetie, since you were there for me when I needed you most. I treasure the times you visited me and assured me that everything will be well. I treasure every moment we spent together, both in person in the box and on the phone. Together, we grieved and laughed, and now we celebrate together!
“I ask God to keep us together for as long as I live since you are both my dearest friend and my companion. #Wifeforlife #FamilyFirst #GodistheGreatest #I Love You, Baby
After serving 13 years, Vybz Kartel’s conviction was reversed earlier this year. In 2014, he was first given a life sentence for the 2011 murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams.
After being released from prison, Kartel, who suffers from Graves’ Disease, talked to Lisa Evers of Fox 5 New York about his intentions for the future.
He remarked, “You know, I’m working on my health right now, but it’s just an amazing feeling to just be free.” “I’m very positive, but I could be better.”
Additionally, he has already purchased a bike and a treadmill as part of his new regimen.
“I’ve jumped right in,” he continued.
While incarcerated, the “Summertime” hitmaker experienced several health problems.
Isat Buchanan, Evers’ lawyer, disclosed to him in June that Kartel need medical assistance the previous year.
“Mr. Palmer’s condition is truly life-threatening,” he informed the veteran New York reporter. “You couldn’t close the collar on his neck because of how swollen it was right now. Imagine a shirt that is about 18.5 inches around the neck.”
“His face is actually swollen,” he added. And another thing. Because he wears spectacles all the time, his eyes protrude in this condition.
Kartel spent up to twenty-three hours a day in solitary confinement, and his attorneys argued he was being prevented from getting clean air.
On July 31, the Jamaican Court of Appeal decided that Vybz Kartel (actual name Adidja Azim Palmer) and his co-defendants would not be retried.
Several hip-hop celebrities, including Drake, who shared a selfie of himself sporting one of the self-described King of Dancehall’s shirts, praised the singer’s independence. “Boss, free up now,” he wrote as well.
“Welcome home,” Nicki Minaj wrote on his Instagram page in response to Kartel’s release, while Busta Rhymes, who has collaborated with the Jamaican artist on many of his songs, added: “WORL BOSS THE WORLD IS YOURS KING!!” Greetings from home!
Young M.A., Ty Dolla $ign, and Swizz Beatz also posted encouraging remarks.
