Usher will be honored at the Black Music Action Coalition’s (BMAC) 2024 gala among celebrities like LL COOL J and Live Nation, according to a statement made on Thursday, August 8.
The highly sought-after Quincy Jones Humanitarian Award will be given to the R&B icon at the event, which is set for September 19 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. It will further add to his impressive resume; at the 2024 BET Awards, he recently won the Lifetime Achievement Award.
BMAC co-founder and CEO Willie “Prophet” Stiggers stated, according to Billboard, “We’re thrilled to celebrate this year’s honorees who have utilized their talents, platforms, and resources to create a positive and meaningful impact in social and racial justice globally.”
“We are in a critical period for our nation and industry,” he said, referring to this year’s charity. In order to inspire necessary change, it is now more crucial than ever to acknowledge these amazing achievements and bring the entertainment sector together.
The Clarence Avant Trailblazer Award winner, LL COOL J, thanked everyone in the interim. It’s a pleasure, he said, to be getting this award from a group that is actively promoting racial fairness and equity in the music business.
Constance Orlando, Kimberly Paige, Scott Mills, Louis Carr, and Ivy McGregor, Executive Director of BeyGOOD, are among the other honorees at the 2024 BMAC Gala presented by BET Media Group.
Usher’s RENDEZVOUS IN PARIS movie is scheduled to open in theaters worldwide in September as well. Anthony Mandler is the director of this project, which will include him performing covers of songs including “My Boo,” “Love In This Club,” and “Yeah!” during his eight-show stint at La Seine Musicale in Paris in 2023.
On Tuesday, August 6, the official teaser for the documentary was released, with Usher narrating over his own performances.
