Tyler, The Creator has a strong admirer in punk icon Iggy Pop following their brief collaboration a few years ago.
Tyler and Iggy appeared in a Gucci Tailoring campaign advertisement with A$AP Rocky in 2020, and it seems that Tyler made a significant impact. During a conversation about the Chromakopia rapper on his BBC Radio 6 program Iggy Confidential, the Godfather of Punk referred to him as “a true old-school talent.”
“I have always appreciated Tyler.” “I worked with him for a day once, and he would do whatever is necessary to gain attention,” Iggy stated. “He’s truly a versatile performer in singing, dancing, and writing — an authentic old-school talent with a contemporary style.”

Iggy Pop isn’t the sole icon giving accolades to Tyler, The Creator.
One of the major music icons from his hometown, Ice Cube, expressed his respect for Tyler in a recent interview with HipHopDX, praising his originality and inventiveness, which he believes showcase an aspect of Los Angeles that is frequently overlooked.
When inquired about his views on the success of the Odd Future founder, Cube remarked: “That’s L.A. That’s the L.A. that remains unknown — highly creative people who resist conforming to gang culture.” “They will be true to themselves.”
Cube then likened Tyler to a specific highly esteemed West Coast rap collective: “He brings to mind The Pharcyde, for me.” Here’s another one: the Black Eyed Peas are from this place.
“You will always have certain groups that stick to their own unique style and flavor, and they will succeed with it.” Since they refuse to conform, they aren’t becoming what you desire; they are simply being themselves. “And you have to respect that.”
Tyler, The Creator is not lacking in well-known admirers. Since making a splash with “Yonkers” (and its notorious roach-chewing clip) more than ten years ago, the Hawthorne native has garnered endorsements from icons such as Kanye West, JAY-Z, and Lil Wayne, as well as fellow West Coast legends Snoop Dogg and Kendrick Lamar.
Among the greatest praises have been those from his idol Pharrell, who in 2017 tweeted: “Thank you @tylerthecreator for embodying all we envisioned while creating In Search Of,” alluding to N.E.R.D.‘s genre-fusing album from 2001. “Creative liberty to express yourself and create anything you desire.”
Although he is now an established veteran, Tyler’s career has only grown stronger in recent years — especially over the past year.
Last year, he released his eighth album, Chromakopia, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with record first-week sales for his career (nearly 300,000) and was recognized as the second-best rap album of 2024 by this very magazine.
Tyler additionally presented the 10th edition of his Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival and unveiled his first fashion line with Louis Vuitton, calling it a dream realized.
A huge Chromakopia World Tour is set to kick off next month, making 2025 look like another significant year.
