At the 2024 MTV European Music Awards, the “Water” hitmaker won Best Afrobeats, Best African Act, and Best R&B.

On Sunday, November 10, Tyla received numerous honors at the 2024 MTV European Music Awards, where she also honored Aaliyah.

Wearing a teal blue version of the Roberto Cavalli gown that the late R&B singer wore to the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards, the “Truth or Dare” performer attended the occasion. According to WWD, she added black heels and a diamond-encrusted watch choker as additional accessories, which were provided by stylist Ron Hartleben, also known as Ronnie Hart.

I adore the tribute to the great Aaliyah! One fan commented, “You looked stunning in that Cavalli,” beneath the South African singer’s Instagram picture. “You’ll always be that girl,” said another. Thank you for honoring one of my [favorites], Aaliyah, and congratulations on your enormous victory, my dhiye.

Her choreographer, Lee-ché Janecke, wrote elsewhere that this year “remains the most fortunate debut year.”I’m so proud of you, moms!As a first-time nominee, Tyla had a fantastic night as she won in three categories: Best Afrobeats, Best African Act, and Best R&B..

“I can’t believe it,” Tyla said in her Best Afrobeats award speech. All of the nominees are literally crazy. They have truly advanced Afrobeats, and I am incredibly thrilled to receive this distinction. It’s crazy, but I just want to express my gratitude to the Tygers, my family, and my team for supporting me.

Naturally, we are grateful to God. Standing next to her sister Sydney Seetha, the performer went on, “Thank you to Afrobeats.” “African music has benefited greatly from Afrobeats.” Tems, Ayra Starr, Asaka, Burna Boy, and Rema were among the other acts that competed in the category; all of them have had exceptionally successful seasons this year.

At the EMAs, Tyla also sang “Water” and “PUSH 2 START.” The latter song was featured on the deluxe edition of her first album, TYLA+, which also included the songs “SHAKE AH” and “BACK to YOU.” Among others, Travis Scott, Gunna, and Becky G contributed to the original LP.
