Two individuals, Ibrahim Sadiq Adekunle and Ugwu Pascal Chijioke, were given 46 years in jail by the Special Offences Court’s Ikeja division for pretending to be members of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
The information was revealed by the EFCC in a statement on Sunday.
According to the statement, Messrs. Chijioke and Adekunle were re-arrested on an amended five-count charge pertaining to impersonation, property attempt, possession of documents containing false pretense, and wearing the EFCC uniform unlawfully. Judge Abike-Fadipe sentenced the offenders to seven years apiece on counts one through three, one year on count four, and eight months on count five during her ruling. The sentences must be read aloud in parallel.
The commission obtained credible intelligence that led to the prisoners’ arrest in May 2021, according to the anti-graft agency. At the time of their arrest, they were allegedly engaged in an illegal operation at the New Horizon Estate in Lekki, Lagos.
