According to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, President Bola Tinubu is making great efforts to improve Nigeria’s economy.

During his constituency briefing/empowerment event on Tuesday in Ikot Ekpene, Mr. Akpabio made this claim, stating that the nation’s economy was in poor shape when the president took office in May 2023.

According to him, Mr. Tinubu is committed to improving the economy and the lives of all Nigerians, regardless of their party, ethnicity, or religion.

“President Tinubu faced really difficult circumstances on the ground; no one was envious of him. He stated that he was committed to changing the situation, therefore let’s support him in doing so.

“We are confident that we will ultimately advance the nation. Give him some time, and he will take us to our El Dorado. He has already done it in Lagos and will do it again in Nigeria.

“I want us to be aware that when Tinubu was elected president, Nigeria was on life support.

I once asked him if he was thrilled about taking over as president and observing the state of the economy Mr. Emefiele left behind. “Well,” Mr. Akpabio responded, “I’m determined to change the situation.”

Mr. Akpabio added that the president’s ongoing constituency initiatives across have had a profound impact on many lives.

Additionally, he stated that the goal of the regional commissions that the federal government just established was to empower people and develop the areas.

Mr. Akpabio claims that by granting the South-East a crucial ministry—the ministry of works—and enacting the South-East Development Commission bill, the president has demonstrated his love for the region.

As he stated, “Mr. President decided to give us the ministry of works in addition to other key ministries, even the petroleum and gas ministry, because South-East has a lot of ecological problems and very poor roads, just like the South-South.”

Bags of rice, automobiles, generator sets, deep freezers, tractors, tricycle vans, minibuses, motorcycles, sewing machines, and makeup kits were all distributed by Mr. Akpabio during the event.

Along with other empowerment items, the Senate president also gave N200,000 to 2,000 undergraduate students.

He claimed that the president approved of the gesture as a way to express gratitude to the populace for their support and votes.

He praised Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno for his calm demeanor and for showing goodwill by delivering 1,000 bags of rice to the state’s All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters.
