Abel Tesfaye believes he has “surpassed every obstacle” as The Weeknd.

The conclusion of The Weeknd may be nearer than fans realize. On Friday (Jan. 10), the artist known as “Blinding Lights,” whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, suggested he might retire his stage name yet again.

In a discussion with Variety, The Weeknd revealed details about his forthcoming album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, the corresponding film sharing the same title, and what lies ahead following his After Hours-Dawn FM trilogy. During their dialogue, the outlet observed that the artist suggested several times about “ending this chapter,” which he subsequently clarified pertained to his “identity as The Weeknd.”

“Somewhere in my mind, I was pondering, ‘You lost your voice because it’s over.” You expressed all that you needed to express. Don’t linger too long at the party — you can conclude it now and enjoy a joyful life. Do you understand? Wrap it up: Speed Up Tomorrow? “Now we are present,” he clarified.

Luckily, The Weeknd made it clear that he wouldn’t be completely stepping away from music entirely, likely returning to his birth name or choosing a new alias. “I believe I can’t refrain from doing that,” he remarked. “However, all things must seem like a challenge.” At this moment, The Weeknd, whatever it represents, has been perfected for me. … I believe I have triumphed over every obstacle as this identity.”

Fans who have supported the singer for years will probably find out more about his ultimate choice following the Hurry Up Tomorrow tour, which, as reported by Variety, might “extend into 2026.” The highly anticipated album is set to arrive on streaming platforms on Jan. 24, featuring singles such as “Dancing In The Flames,” the Playboi Carti-assisted “Timeless,” and “São Paulo” in collaboration with Anitta.

Regarding the Hurry Up Tomorrow movie, the psychological thriller will be released in theaters on May 16. Along with the Canadian superstar, audiences can also expect to see Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan on screen.
