The release date for Guatemalan DJ Gordo’s Drake-assisted song “Sideways” was revealed on Tuesday, July 23. The song will be featured on the beatmaker’s upcoming album, DIAMANTE, which is scheduled to be released at midnight on Friday, July 26.
On his Instagram Stories earlier this year, Gordo made hints about a potential partnership with the Toronto musician. He commented, “You guys ready for summer 2024?” next to a picture of himself and Drake, in which the latter was seen giving him the finger.
At their Brooklyn Mirage event earlier in the month, Keinemusik—whose &ME and Rampa are featured on DIAMANTE—previewed an unreleased song with Drake that is rumored to be “Sideways.” The Grammy Award winner crooned in the clip, “If it makes you feel / Man, I used to love you / But you were never my girl / It was just my turn / Then it turned sideways / It was just my turn.”
Leon Bridges, Larry June, T-Pain, the late Young Dolph, and others are anticipated to appear on Gordo’s next album. A notable omission from the 16th and last track on the LP suggested the possibility of another well-known joint effort.
Drake’s career has benefited greatly from the record producer’s involvement in recent years; he produced multiple tunes on Honestly, Nevermind. He is acknowledged on “Gently” and “Rich Baby Daddy” from For All The Dogs, and he contributed to the songs “Currents,” “Calling My Name,” “Sticky,” and “Massive,” among others.
However, since his feud with Kendrick Lamar, the “Hotline Bling” hitmaker has maintained a relatively quiet profile in the music industry. In June, he appeared on Snowd4y’s “Wah Gwan Delilah.” Later that month, he collaborated with Camila Cabello on the songs “HOT UPTOWN” and “Uuugly.”
“Why does he have a song of his own? Because, in all honesty, I simply want to hear Drake on my own record,” Cabello said of “Uuugly” to Billboard. “I love that for me—it’s like that rebellious mood,” she went on. I can do it, who says? Drake is saying his s**t.
