Nigerians have been given the assurance that the risks presented by the “Lakurawa” terrorist group in the North-West will soon be eliminated by Maj.-Gen. Adamu Laka, coordinator of the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

During a press briefing on the group’s work on Thursday in Abuja, Mr. Laka provided the guarantee.

He claimed that the National Security Advisor, Nuhu Ribadu, was coordinating efforts to combat the recent outbreak of terrorism in Sokoto State and areas of the North-West by the Lakurawa militants.

Mr. Laka claimed that their combined efforts to combat terrorism and other crimes had yielded significant results.

He asserts that the efforts to maintain peace and security throughout the country have been led by men and officers from the armed forces and other security organizations.

“Unfortunately, a fresh round of Lakurawasa threats has surfaced. They have been there for a while, but they are being presented as something new even if they are not.

The NSA, the Minister of Defense, the Chief of Defense Staff, the Service Chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police, and the leaders of other security agencies have convened multiple times since their inception to confront the threat head-on.

You might find it interesting to learn that specific actions based on well-informed judgments have been made to totally stop these groups’ operations in Sokoto State and throughout Nigeria.

“Like all terrorist organizations, they seek to sow fear and thwart government initiatives, but I have faith that with the dedication of our military, security forces, and united community, we will stand strong and defeat them in no time,” he stated.

Through resiliency, security, military cooperation, and civic cooperation, the NCTC chief emphasized the importance of everyone standing together as members of a community, state, and one indivisible nation.

He claimed that the center’s main focus was on proactive measures for prevention, readiness, and collaboration between the government and society, emphasizing the importance of uniting to present a united front against any threat.

According to Mr. Laka, the federal government was using cutting-edge technology to monitor, collect, and analyze intelligence as well as stricter security measures in high-risk regions.

Additionally, our intelligence services are putting in a lot of effort to deliver timely and useful intelligence in order to stop and neutralize these threats.

“To stay ahead of those who seek to harm us on the security of our borders, we have also maintained close ties with our allies,” he stated.

Mr. Laka urged the media to play a crucial role in the fight against terrorism and other organized crime, saying that increasing public support and awareness was crucial.

Regarding the group’s formation, Mr. Laka clarified that the Lakurawa group was defending certain towns from the bandits, stating that “today’s solution could be tomorrow’s problem.”

The security agencies were working to halt their recruitment efforts, he said, adding that the group lacked the ability to compromise national security and present additional dangers.
