Westside Gunn’s upcoming studio album, Flygod Is An Awesome God III (Trilogy), has been formally revealed.
The Buffalo native took some time to heal after losing a loved one in April. He then came out of hiding to inform followers that a project was coming soon in June.
Gunn provided more information on Monday, July 22, in a new update that was shared with X. 2019 saw the release of the first Flygod Is An Awesome God, and 2019 saw the release of the sequel.
He penned, “FLYGOD IS AN AWESOME GOD III (TRILOGY).” “OMG, this album is so amazing! This stuff is so raw and dusty that I had to pull out the mask again. I know the game Even if my kids are occupying themselves quite well, I miss them. AWAY FROM HOME: YOUR FATHERS @griseldarecords x MICHELLE
The lead single “Chocolate Face,” which he did not specify when it will be released, was the theme song for TNA Wrestling’s July 20 Slammiversary event. He also stated that the album would be out in the fall.
Westside Gunn said last year that he will no longer be releasing conventional studio albums.
He stated to Rolling Stone last year about his 2023 project And Then You Pray For Me, “[This is] going to be the last album where I take the time to say ‘this is an album.'” “I was working on all these projects, like mixtapes, while I was doing the Hitler Wears Hermes series.” In two or three days, I was taping the entire thing. I’m not saying I won’t collaborate with Madlib on a five-song EP, or that I won’t rap or release a seven-song EP with Alchemist. I’ll take care of everything, but I’m done with creating a studio album.
“Until I decide I can no longer dump, it’s back to dumping. I’m going to enjoy myself now. The pressure has stopped. For me, this record was a pressure. I’m just experimenting with a couple different things, but it’s entirely me. It’s not as if I’m not being myself or breaking the mold with it. It sounds kind of different, but I’m still me. However, I’m not sure how long I want to ride for at the same time.
“I have a lot of other things going on in my life right now that are different,” he continued. In addition, there are some very amazing new musicians who I wish to break. And since they are the ones that require development, I am aware that they require my attention.
