Many were disappointed that GloRilla was the only Hip Hop act when the MTV Video Music Awards announced their initial roster earlier this month. But, Megan Thee Stallion was revealed as the first-ever host of the award presentation on Thursday, August 22, giving fans much more to anticipate.

With an astounding five nods, Megan leads the field in nominations. She is vying for Best Direction for “BOA,” which is also nominated for Best Hip Hop, Best Art Direction, and Best Visual Effects. She is also vying for Best Collaboration with GloRilla for “Wanna Be.”

The event, which was originally scheduled to air from New York’s UBS Arena on September 11, was rescheduled one day later than anticipated, possibly to avoid conflicting with Kamala Harris and Donald Trump’s presidential debate. Fans can still cast votes for their preferred musicians in a few categories in the interim.

There is fierce competition for the VMAs this year. Drake’s “Rich Baby Daddy,” Eminem’s “Houdini,” Travis Scott’s “FE!N,” “BOA,” and GloRilla’s “Yeah Glo!” will compete against each other for Best Hip Hop. However, the songs “Made For Me” by Muni Long, “On My Mama” by Victoria Monét, “Water” by Tyla, “Lifeline” by Alicia Keys, and “Good Good” by Usher are competing for the title of Best R&B.

Megan released her self-titled third studio album in June, outside of the awards ceremony. GloRilla, UGK, Yuki Chiba, Kyle Ricch, Big K.R.I.T., and Buddah Bless were among those that contributed to it. The 18-song album also featured the singles “HISS” and “Cobra.”

“I don’t want to admit that I’m utilizing other genres. Megan Thee Stallion is still very much there; I’m just incorporating new sounds,” she stated to L’Officiel prior to the album’s release. “It won’t seem as though I turned so left. It will seem genuine to me. You’ll almost think, “This sounds great, but I wouldn’t have thought she would have rapped over that.”
