The Department of State Services (DSS) has been made aware of intentions by some individuals and groups to hold peaceful demonstrations on June 12, 2024, in various sections of the nation. The protests are planned with dark goals in mind to take place on Democracy Day. Although citizens may be allowed to assemble and express themselves, these liberties shouldn’t be utilized to jeopardize national security or public safety.

We will not put up with certain non-state actors’ determined attempts to stir up widespread discontent by staging potentially violent protests. It is instructive, therefore, to observe that violent protests are incompatible with the federal government’s nonviolent willingness to resolve all disputes, including those pertaining to the minimum wage. As a result, citizens are urged to oppose any arguments that they should be lawless or that they should bring chaos and anarchy to the country. People who are upset are instead urged to properly file their complaints through the proper channels and processes.

As a result, the DSS reiterates its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation against hostile acts planned by enraged factions in an attempt to topple law and order. In order to uphold national security, preserve peace, and safeguard people and property across the country, it will also continue to collaborate with all pertinent parties, including sister security agencies. Law-abiding persons are exhorted to conduct themselves fearlessly.

The service called for continuing patriotism, unity, and commitment to constructing a Nigeria of our shared dream while congratulating the government and people on this important occasion of celebrating 25 years of uninterrupted democracy. In the meanwhile, the public can still reach the DSS via phone at +2349088373514 and via email at [email protected], as well as through the website dss.gov.ng.
