Born in the Wild, Tems’ eagerly anticipated debut album, will be available for streaming on June 7. She released the 18-song tracklist in advance of its publication.
Apart from the two pre-release songs, “Love Me JeJe” and “Me & U,” J. Cole will be featured on “Free Fall” and Asake will be singing on “Get It Right.” “Not An Angel,” which is due out in December 2023, is not included in the next body of work.
Fans of the Nigerian artist were obviously happy with the news, especially considering the album’s short runtime and lack of extra features. Eighteen tracks? One person commented, “Oh, you are feeding us, mama.” “I know J. Cole [is] about to deliver on this one, hands down,” added another.
The rapper from North Carolina will make his second guest verse of 2024 on “Free Fall,” following up on Cash Cobain’s “Grippy.”
On June 12, Tems will launch her globe tour in support of the album at the Eventim Apollo in London. She will perform in key cities including Orlando, Atlanta, New York, Toronto, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, and Los Angeles during the U.S. leg, which is scheduled to begin in August. Furthermore, the journey will come to an end in Sydney, Australia, on November 15.
“My journey is the true subject of Born in the Wild. It’s about who I am as a person and what experiences I’ve had thus far,” she said earlier this year to Zane Lowe of Apple Music. “My upbringing in Lagos has shaped who I am, but the location isn’t really important. More important is the state of being.
“The area where I resided was a wilderness. To be the person I am today, a lot of things have happened to me and I have learnt a lot of lessons. It is essentially emerging from the wild. Thus, Tems continued, “that’s essentially the theme of Born in the Wild.”
