“Three nights of Drake” seemingly failed to attract the “God’s Plan” artist.
Even though Rolling Loud is one of Hip Hop’s most prominent festivals, they still have a lineup of artists they aspire to secure. On Tuesday (Jan. 7), co-founder Tariq Cherif mentioned in an interview with Big Boy that they have been attempting to sign Drake for several years — yet they have not succeeded so far.
“I sense that Drake is avoiding us,” he stated. “I have no issues with Drake.” I enjoy Drake. I believe he’s an amazing artist… We’ve been attempting to schedule Drake for ages. “We even proposed three nights with Drake once.”
It’s important to mention that Rolling Loud hosted its inaugural festival in Toronto in 2022. While the city’s top star would have been the perfect main act, attendees enjoyed shows from Tory Lanez, Lil Uzi Vert, Future, Roddy Ricch, Pressa, and others instead.
A potential reason Drake might have declined Rolling Loud is his own OVO Fest, which, although popular, hasn’t taken place since 2019. Fans were fortunate to witness him wrap up J. Cole’s Dreamville Fest in 2023.
“They said, ‘You have to make it unique.’” Okay, fine, [let’s have] three evenings of Drake. “You could be the main act for three nights,” Cherif informed Big Boy. “I was told that a specific festival in Europe is planning to take our concept,” he noted, likely mentioning Wireless Festival.
Rolling Loud California announced its 2025 lineup on Tuesday (Jan. 7), featuring ASAP Rocky and Playboi Carti as the main acts for the newly condensed two-day festival. “By reducing the event by a day, we can provide the same incredible lineup, amazing activations, and memorable atmosphere at a more affordable price,” said Matt Zingler and Cherif regarding the choice, as reported by REVOLT.
Additional performers on the lineup are DDG, Blxst, Dom Kennedy, BossMan Dlow, Ab-Soul, YG, and Cash Cobain. Sexyy Red and Quavo, who have collaborated with Drake multiple times, are also scheduled to perform, so there could be unexpected surprises ahead.
