SZA’s recent chart achievements with her new project seem not to have boosted her desire to stay in music — in fact, it suggests the contrary, according to a recent social media update.

On Saturday (January 4), the artist shared on X that she planned to pursue a distinctly different path with her upcoming two albums, followed by a complete career shift.

“To complete my final 2 album obligations, I believe I only want to create tranquil children’s music and move on,” she stated. “Then become a farmer and give the harvest to underprivileged communities.”

The announcement regarding SZA’s departure from music surprised some fans, as her SOS had just climbed back to the top of the Billboard 200 due to her Lana deluxe album.

First launched in 2022 to widespread critical praise and financial success, the project soared back to the top spot after the release of its 15-track deluxe edition on December 20, as reported by Billboard.

In the context of the chart, all iterations of the album are grouped under the title SOS, and the project has recorded 178,000 equivalent units in its first week following Lana’s launch.

Had Lana been launched as an independent project, it would have still premiered at the top of the Billboard 200, with its 15 tracks totaling 105,000 units on their own — 5,000 more than Michael Bublé’s Christmas, which held the second spot on that week’s chart.

It has been twenty two months since SOS last reached the Billboard 200’s number one position, establishing the longest interval for any album returning to the top.

SZA’s hit second album has now occupied the number one spot for 11 nonconsecutive weeks and has remained in the top 20 of the chart since it launched two years back.

SZA expressed her gratitude to fans for the ongoing success of SOS by posting “thank you” on her Instagram Stories.

She also posted on X (formerly Twitter): “If it weren’t for God’s blessing in my life this year, wow.” My folks are in good health. secured 3 Grammys. reached number one once more. Sang on Sesame Avenue. Filmed a movie. Photographed a Vogue magazine cover. Traveled around the globe. Received an award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame. WHO JAH FAVORS NO MAN DAMNS!!
