SZA has dispelled a rumor that a feature from Frank Ocean was taken off her new album Lana.
After its slightly postponed launch late last week, an X (previously Twitter) account named @blondedhomer started disseminating an unsupported rumor that Ocean had produced content for the project.
They stated: “Frank Ocean’s contribution to SZA’s latest album Lana (SOS deluxe) was taken out just before release.”
The post drew the interest of the TDE songstress, who responded angrily: “Lmao why would you even invent this?? “You’re crazy… it never happened… and don’t you ever use Frank’s name like that, EVER.”
SZA has earlier recognized the impact Frank Ocean has had on her musical style.
In a recent interview with Kendrick Lamar for Harper’s Bazaar, she confessed that she acts as if she is the mysterious R&B singer while in the studio.
“Sometimes being in the studio is really painful for me.” “Perhaps that’s the reason I connect and assume the identities of different people,” she mentioned. “That’s the reason I’m acting like you [Kendrick] or acting like Frank [Ocean] or acting like Future since it’s simple.”
“It’s simpler to be me as they see me than to confront some of the truly harsh things I say to myself.”
Fans were eager to have Ocean featured on a remix of her single “Good Times” in 2021.
SZA received a flood of social media requests to feature the Grammy-winner on the track, to which she responded by posting on her Instagram Stories: “Imma ask lol.”
Although SZA mentioned she would contact him, a remix with the former Odd Future artist has not appeared yet.
Indeed, Ocean has not launched any new music since the pair of 2020 songs titled “Dear April” and “Cayendo,” leaving fans craving an album since the 2016 debut of Blonde.
Since then, Frank has engaged in several fashion endeavors, allegedly directing his debut film and headlining Coachella in 2023, which received mostly unfavorable feedback, resulting in the cancellation of his performance during the festival’s second weekend.
