ScHoolBoy Q, Jay Rock, and additional artists from Top Dawg Entertainment are set to perform on Thursday (Dec. 12).
On the night of Tuesday (Dec. 10), Top Dawg Entertainment revealed that Kendrick Lamar will be part of the lineup for its 11th yearly Christmas concert and toy drive.
Musical events are scheduled to occur in Compton at 11 a.m. PT on Thursday (Dec. 12) will showcase numerous other artists, such as ScHoolboy Q, Jay Rock, Doechii, Isaiah Rashad, SiR, Ab-Soul, Ray Vaughn, and SZA. For individuals intending to go to the event, the official flyer asks attendees to bring an “unwrapped gift” for admission — likely toys, clothing, and various donations.
Except for Rashad and Rock, who have kept a fairly low profile this year, TDE’s lineup has been quite active. Doechii’s “Alligator Bites Never Heal” received three nominations for the 67th annual Grammy Awards. In the past few weeks, she’s showcased a medley from the mixtape on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and NPR’s “Tiny Desk Concert.”
SZA is gearing up to launch LANA, which seems to be the deluxe edition of her 2022 project, SOS. On Monday (Dec. 9), which marks the second anniversary of the previously mentioned project, the Missouri artist revealed a snippet of unreleased music that samples The Isley Brothers’ “Voyage to Atlantis.” The trailer featured the text, “The countdown begins now.”
Lamar, despite no longer being under contract with the West Coast powerhouse, launched GNX in November. It premiered at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, propelled by tracks like “squabble up,” “tv off,” “wacced out murals,” among others. Both he and SZA showcased their talent through tracks such as “luther” and “gloria.”
In reality, TDE’s concert and toy drive will partially act as a sneak peek of what audiences can look forward to from Lamar and SZA’s eagerly awaited “Grand National Tour.” It is anticipated to kick off on April 19 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, with subsequent performances in Houston, Atlanta, Charlotte, Philadelphia, St. Louis, and Chicago, among others. Los Angeles and Toronto have recently been granted additional dates, bringing the total to three and two stops in each city, respectively.
