Because 31 escaping convicts constituted a threat to national security and public safety, the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has urged the public to assist the agency in its efforts to apprehend them.
This was revealed in a statement released on Thursday by NCoS spokesman Abubakar Umar.
In Suleja, Niger, a rainfall on April 24 caused significant damage to the Medium Security Custodial Centre, allowing 119 prisoners to break free.
The heavy rain severely damaged the correctional center’s infrastructure, including a hole in the fence that let prisoners escape.
According to Mr. Umar, the public has also been notified that the NCoS has now implemented both overt and covert tactics in an effort to apprehend all escaped individuals.
He gave us his word that increased security will be implemented in all national detention centers to avert any security lapses.
This occurred as a result of the regrettable perimeter wall collapse at the plant after a significant downpour. The NCoS stated that this is now necessary in an attempt to apprehend them and return them to jail.
The statement said, “In an effort to apprehend the fugitives and return them to the facility, the information about them is hereby disclosed for sister security agencies and the general public to keep an eye out for.
“The public can report any sightings of escapees to the closest security officer or agency, or they can give these numbers a call: 07087086005, 09060004598, or 08075050006. Our email addresses are [email protected] and [email protected], where the public can also reach us.
