In his post-Dungeon Family career, Killer Mike’s MICHAEL marked another victorious release. In fact, it was so remarkable that he revealed a whole new project that acts as a spiritual complement to his Grammy-winning masterwork.
The 10-track album Songs For Sinners & Saints, a collaboration with his band The Mighty Midnight Revival, will be released this Friday, August 2, by the legendary Atlanta rapper.
In a press announcement, Mike stated, “I had a year to live with MICHAEL, and I realized I had more I wanted to do with this sound before moving on.”
This is a testimonial from me. People getting the chance to come up and share their personal testimonies in public about their struggles, victories, and difficulties was a significant aspect of church services while I was growing up.
“I was reminded after the joyous atmosphere that surrounded Michael that although hardships never end, God is always with me. This is a testimonial of my turbulent times, my trials, and my continued triumph in spite of doubt, outright hate, and fear,” the speaker concluded.
“To talk to and with my fellow sinners and saints, that is why I am here.”
Alongside Killer Mike on Songs For Sinners & Saints are soul slingers Blxst, Anthony Hamilton, and recently signed Death Row Records artist Jane Handcock, along with other Southern Hip Hop mainstays Offset, Project Pat, and Key Glock.

New renditions of two songs that were merged into a single track on MICHAEL, “Slummer” and “Something For Junkies,” may also be found on Songs for Sinners & Saints.
He said, “I realized I might not be done with some of the songs from it, in addition to the sound and feel of MICHAEL.” The events of “Something For Junkies” and “Slumber” took place in the same universe.
This was an opportunity to test out my long-standing perspective that both songs were one continuous play. These are songs that merited a different treatment, and I can’t decide which version I like now.
The Hurry With the Offset and Blxst-assisted “Exit 9 (Remix),” the Jewels rhymer honored the late Organized Noize producer Rico Wade, and the rumbling, God-fearing “Humble Me,” he gave listeners an early taste of the album.
Mike contemplated the highs and lows of MICHAEL on the later track, which saw him win three Grammy Awards this year before being taken into custody following an altercation with venue security.
“I won at the Grammys / For spitting my grammar / Did that for Atlanta / Swept up like a janitor / Got sent to the slammer / Treat me like an animal or some kind of Hannibal,” he rapped.
Just over a year will pass before Songs for Sinners & Saints is released. MICHAEL was widely praised when it was released in June 2023.
Not only did the album win three Grammys, but HipHopDX gave it a score of 4.5 out of 5, making it our choice for Best Hip Hop Album of 2023.
Given that Mike has previously said that he was working on an album trilogy, there might be even more material beyond MICHAEL and Songs For Sinners & Saints.
“I want to go deeper, but the first album kind of brought the nine-year-old to where I’ve come as an adult. He stated earlier this year in an interview with Apple Music, “There are deeper levels to go, you know?”
We’ve already started planning the next one. The following night, Mike WiLL [Made-It] and I were in the studio together with [Mike’s A&R] Cuz Lightyear. And we’re at work.
He continued, “I just want to work and create art that will endure long after I’m gone.” Thus, I am unable to continue partying for too long. While the celebration is enjoyable, I will be working when I return to Atlanta.
