After GloRilla failed to identify the iconic piano solo from “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy,” people are furious.
After the video went viral on Saturday (Nov. 9), GloRilla is receiving lighthearted criticism for not identifying a famous Kanye West song that Kai Cenat played on the piano during his Nov. 5 “Mafiathon 2” stream.
One of the many timeless songs on West’s highly regarded album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, is “Runaway.” With Pusha T’s verse acting as the climax, the piano-based anthem is renowned for its catchy hook and opulent sound.
Before Cenat played the iconic opening to the MBDTF highlight, he and GloRilla engaged in a variety of activities on his well-liked “Mafiathon 2” stream, such as grilling fish and cooking pasta, conversing with their audience, and sharing a piano. When Cenat had completed his performance, she asked, “What was that?” When she failed to recognize the well-known song, he was as surprised as the other Twitch watchers.
One fan commented, “These new artists aren’t music fans,” on a repost of the video. They are well-known figures on social media. “How are you a rapper in this generation and you don’t know this!” said another.
“Y’all do realize this woman was like 10 years old when that song released, and we’ve had 10 different versions of Kanye since then,” said another admirer, defending her. Some individuals think it is crucial for artists to learn from their predecessors, while others disagree.
Whatever one’s opinion, GloRilla has demonstrated a remarkable degree of expansion in 2024. Her smash song “Yeah, Glo!” earned her a Grammy nomination after she dominated the charts with hits like “Wanna Be” and “TGIF.” She has established herself as one of the leading up-and-coming hip-hop stars because to her self-affirming recordings, which have become a rap classic.
This year, she has performed on numerous high-profile platforms, such as MTV’s Video Music Awards, a Democratic Party rally on Kamala Harris’s behalf, and Megan Thee Stallion’s sold-out “Hot Girl Summer Tour.” Since making her debut in the music industry, the CMG signee has advanced significantly.
