On Wednesday, August 7, the trial for Young Thug was reopened. Judge Paige Reese Whitaker of Fulton County Superior Court questioned the prosecution over any new material the defense should be aware of. On day 107 of the trial, the rapper was captured on camera appearing to be asleep, which extended the ordeal.

In an internet video that went viral, Young Thug’s eyes seemed to be closed as his attorney, Brian Steel, talked about the claims that he was a gang leader. Underneath the reshare of The Shade Room, social media hilariously highlighted how long the case has been pending and made light of the situation.

“106 days on trial would wear me out too!” read one response. “They [are] not doing anything anyway other than going back and forth about secret ex parte meetings,” asserted another. Another fan said, “He’s [been] sick of the nonsense.” I’ve never seen a court case as bad as this one.

“He needs all the beauty rest he can get ’cause I need a new album straight out that pin, sir!” was written somewhere else. It’s important to note that the gifted Atlantan released BUSINESS IS BUSINESS, his third studio album, in 2023 while incarcerated. The 15-track album, which included songs by Drake, Lil Uzi Vert, and 21 Savage, debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 chart.

Steel also submitted a move on Wednesday to exclude any information about mobile phone evidence that the state failed to provide them with. “Mr. Williams (Young Thug) now needs to go back and contact independent experts to examine all work, which is [an] waste of procedure and time. The court filing stated, “The State’s case-in-chief and rebuttal must exclude this discovery as the time to share it ended.”

Whitaker gave prosecutors until Friday, August 9, to respond to the defense’s petitions for a mistrial or disqualifications. This deadline was set earlier in the week. The testimony of the jury and witnesses is scheduled to continue the following Monday, August 12.
