Lyndon Dykes, a striker for Scotland, will miss Euro 2024 because to an injury he suffered on Friday on the training field.
The 28-year-old has participated in all eight Euro qualifying matches, starting five of them and scoring one goal in his 36 appearances.
On June 14, Scotland takes on the tournament’s hosts, Germany.
Steve Clarke’s squad only has two additional center-forwards: Che Adams and Lawrence Shankland.
A few hours before Dykes’ forced exit was confirmed, midfielder Ryan Christie told BBC Scotland, “All the boys are gutted for Lyndon, it’s just a freak thing to happen.”
It’s annoying because we’ve already had a couple injuries.
“I am aware of how hard he worked during his weeks off to get ready for this competition, but he has been off for a while due to the Championship, which ends on May 4.
It’s simply one of those situations. Right now, there’s not much we can say to him. All we’re doing is trying to rally around him, and I have no doubt he will do the same.
“It adds another reason for us to be desperate to do well for him and the rest of the country.”
Due to injury, Scotland is already without Aaron Hickey of Brentford, Nathan Patterson of Everton, and Lewis Ferguson of Bologna in the midfield.
Everyone who signed up for the 28-man provisional squad on Thursday, according to assistant manager John Carver, was “in good condition.” However, he cautioned them against doing anything “silly” during training because Scotland “cannot afford” any more injuries.
Stuart Armstrong, a midfielder for Southampton, and John Souttar, a center-half for Rangers, participated in separate training sessions on Thursday from the main group following their seasons-long absences due to injury.
The first day of training was missed by Liverpool winger Ben Doak, Celtic left-back Greg Taylor, Nottingham Forest center-back Scott McKenna, and Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay.
Without a cap After undergoing knee surgery in December, Doak has just recently started training again at his club, and Ryan Jack, a midfielder, has only played 13 minutes for Rangers since February 10.
