Pusha T revealed his thoughts regarding Kendrick Lamar’s diss single “euphoria,” which targets fellow competitor Drake, on Wednesday, June 19. The native of Virginia talked specifically about being mentioned by name on the record and his thoughts on it.
Amazing. Amazing show. Incredible fight rap performance. Listen, Kendrick, man. Pusha stated in a sit-down interview with Vulture. No Malice, his brother and the Clipse counterpart, called the song a “master class.”
“Euphoria,” which was released in April, was a reaction to Drake’s “Push Ups” and “Taylor Made Freestyle.” Lamar made reference to Pusha’s notorious battle with the Toronto rapper on the Cardo-produced song, which is most known for giving rise to the hits “Duppy Freestyle” and “The Story of Adidon.”
“You better spinnin’ again on him, you think about pushin’ me?/ Yeah, fk all that pushin’ P, let me see you push a T. I don’t like you poppin’ st at Pharrell, for him, I inherit the beef.” The Compton rapper sparred, “He’s Terrence Thornton, I’m Terence Crawford, yeah, I’m whoopin’ feet.”
Not just Pusha was mentioned in “euphoria,” though. YNW Melly, BEAM, Gunna, and Sexyy Red were also mentioned. Azalea Banks objected to the last artist being identified, particularly in light of Lamar’s reference to his double murder case.
Earlier in their Vulture interview, Clipse revealed that they are collaborating with Pharrell Williams on another music project. It will be the rap duo’s first full-length album since Til The Casket Drops in 2009.
Pusha clarified, “Pharrell producing everything is also an ode to the kind of music and the kind of albums we want to make.” “We still hope to produce entire bodies of work. Man, these are flicks. These are not only tunes. This goes beyond a simple list of places we visited and performed well.
“This is what the true evolution of the Clipse looks like,” teased No Malice. Being able to demonstrate that while still having excellent raps is just fantastic.
