The “Magnolia” rapper took the stage to perform a mix of his recent collaborations and new songs set to be included on ‘I AM MUSIC.’
Playboi Carti took the stage as the headliner at Rolling Loud Miami on Sunday night (Dec. 15) and, as he had promised, the rapper showcased new tracks from his highly awaited upcoming album, I AM MUSIC.
The Atlanta native kicked off his set with a couple of new tracks — tentatively named “CRUSH” and “COCAINE NOSE” — with one featuring regular collaborator Travis Scott, before transitioning to Future and Metro Boomin’s “Type S**t.” He subsequently performed live versions of tracks exclusive to Instagram and YouTube, including “H00DBYAIR,” “KETAMINE,” and “EVILJ0RDAN.”
“She’s trying to wait for the deal / All-black outfits for the thrill / I just get high, how it feels,” Playboi Carti rapped on another unreleased track, which photographer Gunner Stahl later appeared to confirm was produced by Metro Boomin.
The rapper additionally showcased a medley of his latest collaborations, featuring Scott’s “FE!N,” Ye and Ty Dolla Sign’s “CARNIVAL,” and The Weeknd’s “Timeless.” In the previously mentioned track, he stated, “This [is] my song, n**ga. “Every track I feature on is my track, man.”
Appropriately, Playboi Carti concluded his impressive performance with yet another fresh collaboration featuring The Weeknd. “I’d prefer to deceive than to be without you, girl / I’d choose to mislead rather than confuse you, girl / The reality is, we share laughter, and they wish for our departure,” the Canadian artist melodically sang in the song’s chorus.
Regrettably, I AM MUSIC still lacks a release date. The project will act as a continuation of 2020’s Whole Lotta Red, Playboi Carti’s unexpected release that came out on Christmas day. It’s important to note that “ALL RED,” released in September, is another song that longtime fans might recognize on the upcoming LP.
“According to Erin Larsen, Playboi Carti’s manager, the album has faced many delays because he’s offering people his utmost effort, elements he wants to mark as his own,” she informed Billboard. Concerning previous leaks, she stated, “It prolongs the procedure.” You wouldn’t want to view the Mona Lisa in an art gallery until it is a completed creation.
