Grammy-nominated Nigerian artist Seun Kuti has ignited the music landscape with the release of his explosive new track “Dey,” which features four-time Grammy winner and reggae great Damian Marley.
With the raw intensity of Afrobeat and the rhythmic rhythms of reggae, this much awaited collaboration creates a bridge between Nigeria and Jamaica while enthralling listeners worldwide. The first single off his album “Heavier Yet (Lays The Crownless Head),” which he recorded with Egypt 80, is “Dey.” It is set for release on October 4.
Seun Kuti emphasized the unique meaning of “Dey” while expressing his intense affection for it. Since this is the first time the Kuti and Marley tribes will be featured together on a song, he views the partnership as a historic moment for African unity, the arts, and fraternity. According to Seung, “This song represents African unity and African art.”
The song honors the great musical traditions of Jamaica and Nigeria while pushing the envelope of modern music.
