Early on Friday, August 9, in Paris, French police detained an Egyptian Olympic wrestler on charges of sexual assault.
According to a statement from the Paris prosecutor’s office, the wrestler allegedly touched another customer’s buttocks during the encounter outside a café in the French capital.
The wrestler—whose name has not been made public—was arrested after the alleged incident. In order to learn more about the circumstances behind the accusation, an investigation has been started.
An Egyptian Olympic delegation senior official said they were not aware of the arrest and hence could not comment on the situation.
