On June 2, 2024, the National Assembly’s leadership intervened in response to the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage (NMW) negotiations and Labour’s subsequent resignation from the talks. On Monday, June 3, 2024, the Organised Labour called a statewide strike in order to press its demands.

  1. In order to put an end to the strike action, the Federal Government called a meeting with Labor on Monday, June 3, in the Government of the Federation Secretary’s office, in the interest of the country.

  2. Following extensive discussion and participation from all sides, the following decisions were made:

  3. The Federal Republic of Nigeria’s President, who also serves as the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, is dedicated to establishing a National Minimum Wage exceeding N60,000.

I. In light of the aforementioned, the Tripartite Committee is scheduled to convene daily for the next week in order to reach a consensus on a National Minimum Wage;

II. Labor agrees to call an urgent conference of its organs to discuss the commitment made in (ii) above, showing respect to the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria; and

III. The industrial action would not result in any victimization of workers.
