The newly established Ministry of Livestock Development, according to the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), will increase Nigeria’s foreign profits while lowering poverty, conflicts, and transhumance related to the outmoded practice.

This was said on Sunday in Abuja during a press conference by Baba Othman-Ngelzarma, the national president of MACBAN.

According to him, the cattle industry is currently worth more than N33 trillion and is expected to reach over N75 trillion in a few years with the anticipated additional investments.

According to Mr. Othman-Ngelzarma, a revamped livestock production system will prevent Nigeria from importing billions of dollars’ worth of powdered milk and other livestock goods, much like the blue economy.

He claims that Nigeria’s foreign exchange earnings are expected to increase by almost ten times in the future.

Mr. Othman-Ngelzarma stated, “Nutritional needs must grow in tandem with population growth. By 2050, Nigeria’s population is expected to reach approximately 402 million.” Accordingly, raising livestock production can significantly raise the need for protein, which is best met by a dedicated ministry.

According to Mr. Othman-Ngelzarma, the leather from Sokoto red-skin goats is the most expensive and valuable leather in the world.

“The bags from Armani and Gucci are excellent examples of this. According to the leader of Miyetti Allah, Nigeria exports hide and skin for around $1.2 billion a year.
