The United Arab Emirates (UAE) government intends to shortly eliminate the visa ban on Nigerian travelers, according to Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo.

In a 44-minute interview that was posted on the State House of Nigeria’s official YouTube channel, Keyamo spoke with Otega Ogra, President Bola Tinubu’s Senior Special Assistant, and mentioned that during President Tinubu’s working visit to the UAE in September 2023, a resolution had been reached between President Bola Tinubu and President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates.

He claims that although though the UAE had originally specified more requirements that needed to be satisfied before the ban could be formally withdrawn, the Nigerian government has now finished all requirements, opening the door for an impending declaration from the UAE government.

“Mr. President, credit be given to him, made things quite easy for all of us after that high-level meeting. We followed up on his behalf as his ministers. We’ve completed every task. Everything has been resolved. Simply wait for the UAE government’s announcement, which will come soon, said Keyamo.

Keyamo went on to say that he knew the precise day the travel ban will be lifted, but he emphasized that the UAE government would have to issue the formal statement.

It is anticipated that the lifting of the restriction will facilitate travel again for Nigerian nationals to the United Arab Emirates, strengthening bilateral ties and collaboration between the two nations.
