Nigerian music icon Onyeka Onwenu, often known as the “Elegant Stallion,” has away.

She was seventy-two.

Following her performance at Emzor Pharmaceuticals CEO Stella Okolie’s 80th birthday celebration on Tuesday, Onwenu reportedly passed out.

After being sent to Reddington Hospital, she was alleged to have died there.

Speaking under anonymity, a source stated, “It is really sad.” Tonight, Onyeka Onwenu gave a performance at Emzor Pharmaceuticals’ Mrs. Stella Okoli’s birthday party. She performed and then sagged. After being brought to Reddington Hospital, she was unable to arrive.

1952 saw the birth of Onwenu in Obosi, Anambra.

Her first album, “For the Love of You,” was published in 1981. She started her musical career in the 1980s.

Hit songs including “One Love,” “Ekwe,” “You and I,” and “Bia Nulu” made her famous.

Onwenu received multiple accolades for her achievements in music and film, and she appeared in multiple Nollywood productions.

She acted in films like “The Tyrant,” “Half of a Yellow Sun,” and “Mothers-in-Law.”

Onwenu completed her studies in the United States, receiving a master’s degree in media studies from the New School for Social Research in New York City and a degree in international relations and communication from Wellesley College in Massachusetts.

After beginning her career as a news correspondent for the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) in the early 1980s, Onwenu went on to produce and present “The Onyeka Onwenu Show.” In addition to her work in entertainment, Onwenu was active in politics, serving as the chairperson of the Imo State Council for Arts and Culture in 2013 and the director-general of the National Center for Women Development in 2016. In 2011, she was named a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR).
