Nicki Minaj has regained the title of top-selling female rapper of the year from Doja Cat for 2024.
Although there remains one month left, Chart Data announced on November 30 that Minaj has outperformed her female rap counterparts this year. In the second position is Doja, followed by Megan Thee Stallion, GloRilla, and Sexyy Red, who complete the top five.
In the previous year, Doja and Minaj occupied opposite rankings, whereas Meg stayed at No. 3, Cardi B secured the No. 4 position, and Ice Spice landed at No. 5.
Doja remained fairly low-profile in 2024, aside from releasing a deluxe version of her 2023 Scarlet album before her headlining set at Coachella in the spring. She has maintained a low profile since then and has mostly stayed off social media, but she recently hinted at a “new era” and will probably come back with a new project in 2025.
In contrast, Nicki Minaj spent most of the year on tour and dropped a few music pieces, the latest being a 10th anniversary edition of The Pinkprint that includes various bonus tracks, featuring a posthumous appearance by Juice WRLD.
She will finish the year with a deluxe edition of her chart-topping 2023 album, Pink Friday 2 – and it appears she will take a break afterward as she has titled the deluxe, Pink Friday 2 – The Hiatus.
The initiative will reach its destination on December 13.
Minaj informed her fans during her Stationhead radio show following the last performance of her Pink Friday 2 World Tour in October: “I am taking a hiatus.” However, I have the Vogue opportunity, which I’m extremely proud and honored to participate in, along with a few other projects, after which I will take a brief moment to reflect.
However, as soon as her fan pages started announcing the breakup, she quickly dismissed the reports.
“Not going anywhere at all.” “Blow me & HIATUS,” she typed, adding laughing emojis. “LOLLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLO.” We don’t disclose the break, Barbz. Crack is wack. We do not perform that action. Dem love to chat, dem no run, dem block! Simply unwind and allow whatever happens…to happen intense orchestral music starts”
It seems she genuinely intends to take a break and may have been pointing out that reports were circulating before her formal announcement.
