Nelly was detained this week on suspicion of driving without insurance and possessing four ecstasy pills, but he has since been freed.

The “Country Grammar” rapper was stopped early on Wednesday morning (August 7) in a suburb not far from his hometown of St. Louis, according to TMZ. It wasn’t long before he was freed.

His mugshot is unremarkable other from the bloodshot eyes. It is visible below.

As of this writing, the rapper has not issued a remark on the incident.

In happier news, it was recently disclosed that Ashanti and Nelly have been married for a number of months.

TMZ obtained a copy of the expecting couple’s marriage license in June, which showed they were married on December 27, 2023, before the year 2024.

Although the marriage license doesn’t specify the location of the couple’s wedding, it was legally consummated in St. Louis County, indicating that the rapper’s hometown was probably their choice.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Ashanti—who had only recently announced their engagement in April—recently thought back on the occasion when her partner proposed.

She remarked, “It was just such a lovely, private moment.” “We weren’t dressed up.”

She was understandably “shocked” he chose that setting, given they were watching TV in T-shirts and boxers while lying in bed.

“I cried,” the R&B icon continued. I embraced and kissed him with all my heart. I put everyone I know on FaceTime. I felt like I was ecstatic, stunned, delighted, and content all at once.

Along with the news of their engagement, the pair announced that they were expecting their first child together after getting back together last year.

“The development has been incredible, you know, on both fronts,” she remarked, comparing their current chemistry to that of their early 2000s romance. “Both of us are in a place where, like, we used to fight, get up, shut the door, and not speak for a few days.”
