On Thursday, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund urged all accredited tertiary institutions nationwide to partner with the organization to revise their current student records and upload information for all students, including returning and newly admitted ones, on the NELFUND Student Verification Portal before the portal’s official launch for the 2025/2026 academic year.
A statement from NELFUND’s spokesperson, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, who characterized the exercise as proactive, indicated that the initiative aims to facilitate a smooth verification and loan application process for students when the portal becomes available.
Consequently, institutions must guarantee that every student’s information is correctly recorded and submitted using the admission number or another unique and confirmable identifier.
“NELFUND acknowledges the essential part that higher education institutions have in the effectiveness of the Education Loan Scheme and aims for their ongoing collaboration and partnership in reaching the shared objective of broadening access to higher education for all qualified Nigerian students.”
“Eligibility for the loan scheme is restricted to students whose information has been properly submitted and confirmed by their respective institutions.”
NELFUND encourages all institutions to start and finish the upload process without delay, appointing suitable personnel to manage this important task according to the given technical instructions.
“This partnership is essential to guaranteeing that all qualified students are included as the Fund gets ready to launch its application portal for the upcoming academic year.”
NELFUND is gathering student information to support its initiatives for offering loans to students in Nigerian higher education institutions.
The process of gathering data includes confirming student details via the Student Loan Access System portal. NELFUND requires that all authorized higher education institutions seek access to SLAS for the purpose of verifying and uploading student information concerning loan applications. This phase guarantees the prompt handling and distribution of sanctioned student loans.
The validation procedure entails organizations verifying and submitting student records through the SLAS portal. After the procedure is finished, the student’s status will be updated automatically to “Disbursed,” indicating that the payment has been processed.
NELFUND aims to promote transparency, efficiency, and accountability in the processes of loan application and disbursement.
