This week, during an online court hearing, NBA YoungBoy fans showed their support for their favorite rapper in force, despite the crowd’s presence had little effect on the proceedings.
On Monday, July 22, YB made an appearance via WebEx video conference before a Utah judge. Since his attorney was running late, the judge had to reschedule the arraignment until August 19, thus in the end, nothing transpired during the session. Later, his attorney showed there and informed the judge that although he was departing for a doctor’s appointment, the case had already been rescheduled.
At that point, a few YB supporters also showed up and started yelling “Free YB,” but the rapper had already departed the court.
“Mr. Gaulden’s case has been called,” said Chief Justice Spencer Walsh to the group. “He’s finished up in court today, for those who are curious. Everyone please remain silent.
YoungBoy was charged on 63 charges back in April, including identity theft, forgery, getting a prescription under false pretenses, possessing a dangerous weapon while under restriction, engaging in a pattern of illegal action, and having a controlled substance.
Early in May, KUTV revealed that the controversial rapper was facing further accusations, including two counts of illegal prescription acquisition and possession of a handgun by a prohibited individual.
His alleged scam operated as follows, according to the affidavit: “A suspect calls in a prescription for Promethazine with Codeine, claiming to be a real doctor and using a fraudulent patient name and birthday.” Prescriptions are filled and picked up by [YoungBoy and/or others referred to as “Known Associates” 1 and 2] at some point after they are called in.
During the plan, the 24-year-old is even accused of posing as a doctor, but when he used the word “axed” rather than “asked,” suspicion was aroused.
A few days later, YB’s bond was set at $100,000 during a court appearance, according to FOX 8 in New Orleans.
He did pay the bail, but according to The Advocate, he was taken into another Utah jail shortly after, where he is not eligible for release on bond.
As previously mentioned, his arraignment is now set for August 19 at 9:00 a.m.
