When a former NBA player attempted to play him some beats, Jay-Z once curled him.

Maurice Ager, the baller in question, discussed his failed music proposal to Hov during an interview with Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson.

Jay was a co-owner of the New Jersey Nets for two seasons, during which Ager played. He started by talking about how he first met the rap mogul when the team was on a preseason tour to London.

About his side project at the time, he added, “I make beats and everything; that’s my passion.” “JAY-Z attends our session, and I recall having a great session! My second season with the Nets was this one.

“I approached Jay. He was so cool. He was wearing baggie pants and a leather coat, all in black. I made my introduction [..] I said, “Fam, I make beats.” “I would like you to listen to my music.”

However, Ager did not receive the answer he was hoping for.

“He says, ‘Oh, word?'” However, I need you to focus on that court,” he recalled. “I said, ‘Well, alright. Thank you, my friend. After that, he said nothing further.

The Michigan State graduate “made 30 beats” in his hotel room that evening, choosing not to follow Hov’s suggestion.

Auger’s outstanding first-half performance against the Miami Heat in the English capital did not relieve the Roc Nation leader of his responsibility to emphasize that basketball should come first.

“We had this huge celebration at the O2 Arena after [the game]. All I can recall is attempting to go talk to Jay. “What’s good, man?” I exclaimed,” he said.

“I see you did your thing tonight,” he said. But no more beats. Pay attention to that court. I thought, “He went back on his word!” I said, “All right!” However, I was thinking, “More beats.”

After giving up basketball in 2010, Maurice Ager dedicated his life to music, even landing a producer position on Akon’s Konvict Muzik label.

Since then, he has worked as a producer on tracks for E-40, Royce Da 5’9″, B-Real, Layzie Bone, and Tobe Nwigwe. In 2010, he wrote the rally anthem “Forever I’m a Spartan” for the Michigan State football team.

Ager discussed his choice to forego the NBA in an interview with ESPN in 2011 because he was an unrestricted free agent.

He was speaking of his move from Minnesota, where he was playing for the Timberwolves, to Los Angeles, saying, “I felt that it was the right time to come out here and try to do this full time.”

“Music production has always been a part of me. I’m going to try to make it work because I think I have a knack for it.
