In May, Kendrick Lamar rapped, “Mustard on the beat, h/ Deebo, any rap nga, he a free throw.” Mustard spoke candidly about his role in the diss track directed at Drake on Wednesday, June 19.

The producer, who was born in Los Angeles, revealed to Billboard that, contrary to what some fans had been speculating, he did not sample Nas’ “Ether” when creating the album. “I [saw] someone say that,” the person who created “Ballin'” declared.

You might be surprised to learn that I heard the music at the same time as everyone else. It’s something I’ve never heard of. Mustard said, “I wasn’t in the studio with him. “As I was creating it, I had this thought in the back of my mind: ‘What would Dr. Dre do if Lil Jon was in the studio and they [were] collabing on a beat?’”

“It took me about 30 minutes to make that beat, and five: I didn’t know he was going to gas that beat like that,” he further disclosed.

Mustard is getting ready to release FAITH OF A MUSTARD SEED, his fourth studio album, in addition to producing Kendrick Lamar’s song “Not Like Us.” As of right now, “PARKING LOT” featuring Travis Scott is the only confirmed feature. It is anticipated to launch on streaming services on July 26.

The Houston rapper spat in a snippet for the cut on Tuesday, June 18, saying, “I’m high as a motherfkin’ Scott, the rock/ I give her good dk, the type it’s hard to stop/ The mashup sound make the artist drop.” The album will be out on Friday, June 21.

Perfect Ten, Mustard’s previous album, debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 chart in its first week of release. Contributing artists included the late Nipsey Hussle, Young Thug, Ty Dolla Sign, Ella Mai, and Playboi Carti. Along with this, the project gave birth to hits like “On GOD” and “Pure Water.”
