Memphis Bleek responded to Dame Dash following the Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder’s assertion that JAY-Z wrote his lyrics.
In an interview with The Art of Dialogue, Dash expressed disapproval of Bleek’s work ethic, claiming that Hov had to take initiative and write some songs for him.
“I don’t believe Bleek aimed to take control of [Roc-A-Fella].” “I don’t believe he possessed the capability to,” he remarked. “Jay composed many of his lyrics.” Therefore, if Jay decided to retire, it also signified he was no longer in business.
He said: “Inquire with Bleek regarding it. I can comprehend Bleek’s fidelity to Jay since Jay served as his ghostwriter.
The mogul from Harlem later remarked: “I probably shouldn’t have mentioned that, but he’s been discussing me recently.” I didn’t believe it was a secret. “I believed everyone was aware.”
Focusing on Bleek’s work habits, Dame stated: “I’ve consistently needed to encourage Bleek to release an album. I feel that I desired more for Bleek than Bleek desired for himself.
“I would debate with him on, ‘Create your own show.” Cease relying on this guy to handle everything for you. “You need to accomplish it by yourself.”
Bleek heard of Dash’s remarks and responded on X (formerly Twitter), stating: “He’s acting crazy right now bro [crying face emojis].”
Responding to his ex-label head’s accusation of ghostwriting, the Brooklyn rapper remarked: “I wish perhaps I [would] still be lit [fire emoji].”
He stated: “And folks claimed I was crazy [thinking face emoji] so if Jay penned for me, he’s crazy [too] [crying face emojis].”
Bleek also committed to discussing the subject further in his next podcast, stating: “These kinds of discussions that Dame initiates are why #RocSolidPod needs to Release!! In 2025 we’ll cover all this stuff [crying face emojis].”
JAY-Z has not made any statements regarding the allegations.
Dame Dash has extensively discussed his bond with Memphis Bleek, previously asserting that he aided in “rescuing” his former artist after he was entangled in a detrimental contract.
“Individuals near [Bleek] were seizing his publishing,” he stated on his America Nu Network. “When he was finalizing his record deal, someone had his — he entered into a production agreement.” And I won’t mention anyone’s name. I will allow them to handle that. He discusses it. “All of his publications were being seized.”
He went on to say: “They were receiving a portion of his royalty. He was being stolen from. Thus, I went and found him an attorney. I hired a genuine accountant for him, and it truly created significant tension within the organization. He hailed from Brooklyn, and Brooklyn guys were robbing him, but I rescued him from that situation. Yes, I rescued him from that situation, and he admits it.
