On Thursday (Dec. 12), Netflix revealed that Mariah Carey will kick off its inaugural NFL Christmas Gameday live, and indeed, she’ll be singing her festive hit, “All I Want for Christmas Is You.”
“This Christmas, everyone receives their wish,” Carey expressed while wearing a sparkling red bodysuit in a promotional video shared on Instagram. She mentioned, “The NFL is streaming on Netflix, and I’ll be there as well.” The occasion will kick off with the Kansas City Chiefs facing the Pittsburgh Steelers at 1 p.m. ET. Subsequently, at 4:30 in the afternoon. ET, audiences can watch the Houston Texans face off against the Baltimore Ravens.
Beyoncé is thrillingly set to headline the halftime show of the latter game. For the first time, she will be performing a medley from COWBOY CARTER on stage.
“At last, we are receiving the Mariah x Beyoncé collaboration that we truly deserve,” a fan commented below Carey’s post. “The most recent was 2005, correct?” “Can’t wait,” another individual wrote, likely alluding to her performances of “Shake It Off” and “Don’t Forget About Us” during the NFL’s Thanksgiving Day game in 2005.
On December 6, Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas” secured its 16th platinum certification from the RIAA. On Saturday (Dec. 7), the record regained the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, celebrating its 68th week on the chart overall. Among the other notable tracks on her 1994 holiday album, Merry Christmas, were “O Holy Night” and “Joy to the World.”
Regarding Beyoncé’s halftime show performance, a lot of it remains unclear. Netflix hinted that she will introduce some “special guests” at the NRG Stadium, but fans are not completely certain about their identities.
