The dismissal of Senator Ali Ndume from his position as Senate Chief Whip on Wednesday has been denounced by the Labour Party leadership.

Ndume was fired, and Senator Tahir Monguno, who represents Borno North, took over right away.

The National Secretary, Senator Bashir Ajibola, and the National Chairman of the party, Umar Ganduje, wrote a letter directing Ndume’s replacement by the Senate.

Godswill Akpabio, the president of the Senate, put the request to a voice vote, and all of the APC senators enthusiastically supported it.

National Publicity Secretary of LP, Obiora Ifoh, responded to the incident in a statement released in Abuja on Wednesday, expressing fears that the government is rapidly turning speaking truth to power into a criminal.

He claims that the humiliation of Ndume by the Senate, which is led by Akpabio, has demonstrated the authoritarian tendencies of the ruling All Progressives Congress.

He declared: “The offense committed by Senator Ndume was his audacious declaration of his worries about the rising expense of living and food shortages in Nigeria, as well as his disclosure that President Bola Tinubu has decided to play the ostrich despite the severe famine that is being observed in the country.

“This administration has adopted a serious stance. Senator Abdul Ningi revealed the corruption in the government a few months ago, alleging that the executive branch and Senate leadership had bloated the budget. He was intimidated and suspended from his legitimate position as a senatorial representative as a result.

“It is unnecessary to discuss Nigeria’s ongoing economic problems, despite the fact that a small number of cabal members are greatly profiting themselves. According to current data from the National Bureau of Statistics, food inflation has reached 40.66 percent. Despite these obvious obstacles, the administration is alleged to have spent over N150 billion on constructing roads and a presidential plane, neither of which are directly related to Nigeria’s current economic problems.

Fearing incarceration and emasculation, media professionals are withdrawing into their sheds and refusing to expose the truth about this regime. This is the tyranny of the cabal against the authority of the legislature. We are urging the people of Nigeria to be vigilant and to fortify themselves against the administration’s use of malnutrition as a weapon as it steadily slides toward totalitarianism.
