Even if the high-profile exchange between Drake and Kendrick Lamar has subsided following the release of the “Not Like Us” video, hip-hop enthusiasts and the artists’ regular collaborators are still talking about it. When Lil Yachty joined Andrew Schulz’s “Flagrant” program on Wednesday, July 31, he was questioned concerning the fight.
Rapper Teenage Emotions stated, “I think people are just hating on Drake because he’s the guy.” Then he brought up a previously unreleased podcast episode of “A Safe Place,” in which he discussed in great detail what it was like to be named-dropped in Kendrick Lamar’s “euphoria.”
Lil Yachty added to the hosts, “I wish I had never [spoken] on it. I wish I hadn’t said any part about it.” The artist also said, “That really was an accident,” in reference to the event in which he liked a tweet alleging Kendrick Lamar was cheating on his wife.
Later in the conversation, Schulz returned to the subject, pointing out that Drake’s music is still the most popular choice at events and nightclubs. “Aside from the people who care about Hip Hop, [nobody gives a f**k] at all,” retorted the native of Georgia.
Lil Yachty said, “He really didn’t give a fk,” in reference to the OVO Sound founder’s demeanor during the altercation. He remained unmoved. I spoke with him and I really respect it. He wasn’t bothered by that sh*t. “I never saw him down ever,” he went on. I never saw him holding his head down or kicking his fking foot. I felt like I was the one bringing him the negativity, so I just stopped talking to him about it at that point.
The Quality Control Music signee first said that Drake was “deemed a loser in this battle before it started” on the “A Safe Place” podcast in May, primarily due to his lack of popularity. He added that in the long term, the Toronto native will prevail even if Lamar won the public’s favor.
