As anticipated, the Philadelphia native isn’t fond of music released without their consent: “Leaks are awful.”

Lil Uzi Vert, similar to numerous artists from the SoundCloud era, has had a significant portion of their catalog appear online via leaks. On Monday (Dec. 30), in Pitchfork’s “Over/Under,” the “Just Wanna Rock” creator expressed their candid opinions on the growing issue in music.

“Leaks aren’t prepared to be shared,” the Grammy-nominated artist stated prior to speaking to fans, scammers, and the “individuals in those rooms, in the Discords.” They went on, “And you all sit there and say, ‘Oh, Lil Uzi is garbage,’ you’re essentially watching me get ready in my closet. I still don’t have my clothes on. “So you all pretty much see me undressed.”

“You all aren’t allowing me a moment to put on my clothes.” “Before I get the chance to enhance the song, you all critique it,” Lil Uzi Vert strongly stated. Certainly, when the moment arrived for selection, they merely characterized leaks as “terrible”: “It’s not even an over or underestimation.”

Earlier in the episode, Lil Uzi Vert notably disclosed that several of their earlier tracks were leaked “via email.” They asserted, “Email is unnecessary.” Group texts… [are] undervalued. “That’s the new email… Email is foolish.”

Relative to their contemporaries, 2024 was a subdued year for Lil Uzi Vert, who made his social media comeback in October. The next month, they released their fourth studio album, Eternal Atake 2. The 16-track collection included a single collaboration with Big Time Rush and standout songs such as “Light Year (Practice),” “Meteor Man,” and “Chill Bae.”

Regrettably, the project did not perform very well in terms of sales. It landed at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart, highlighting the Philadelphia artist’s fifth Top 10 project with 59,000 album-equivalent units. However, figures did not measure up when assessing the success of Pink Tape from 2023 and Eternal Atake from 2020.

The year 2025, on the other hand, appears to be somewhat more optimistic, as Lil Uzi Vert has confirmed they’re “100 percent” going on tour. “This time, even before I have any confirmed dates, I’m already set to begin rehearsals,” he expressed to Rolling Stone.
