Latto’s lyrics from her latest album Sugar Honey Iced Tea have fueled the fire under her long-running feud with Ice Spice.

The album, which was made available to the public on Friday, August 9, includes a song titled “S/O to Me,” in which the delegate for ClayCo (Clayton County, Georgia) appears to be criticizing her challenger.

Latto plays on Ice Spice’s first name, Isis, in the opening verse when she raps, “Bye sis, funny thing about it, you can’t look me in my eye, sis.”

The second verse hears her spit: “Shoutout to myself/ Who the hardest out? Bitch, it’s Latto by herself/ Ice is just water when it melts/ Wipe you down, I got plenty towels on the shelf.”

The insult was quickly picked up on by listeners. “Latto disses Ice Spice on new album,” posted Akademiks on Instagram. Do you believe that Ice Spice should take a stand or that the bars don’t require an answer?

Even with these rather direct jabs at Ice, Latto has been giving conflicting signals about what she wants.

In an interview with Billboard last month, the Atlanta rapper mentioned the rivalry and stated that she had no intention of engaging in a real feud with the Bronx native.

When inquired about whether she would have a genuine rivalry with Ice, akin to that between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, Latto responded, “I mean this in the most understanding [way]: I’m a fan of music.” I don’t belong to the group of people who think poetry is the only thing that matters. I enjoy a lot of different subgenres of music, such as mosh pit music and lyrical Drake songs, but hip hop is always at the core of them all.

“If I were to do [a battle], it would have to be with somebody I feel like I’m going to go tit for tat with,” she went on. It’s not meant to be offensive. Even so, would she want to do that? She seems to be staying in her comfort zone. There are two distinct vibes. She doesn’t even seem to be saying to me, “Oh, she wants to get into a real rap beef.”

In her song “Think U the Shit (Fart)” from February of last year, Ice Spice rapped, “I got my foot on they necks, I can’t let up/ She all on the floor, told her get up.”

When Ice Spice rapped, “Think I’m the shit, bitch, I know it, ho/ Jesus walked on water, I got ice boilin’ though,” Latto responded on “Sunday Service.”
