To enhance the security and well-being of students within its jurisdiction, the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos State has initiated a program to station security personnel at both elementary and high schools throughout its various locales. This undertaking aims to bolster safety measures and provide increased protection for students while they are at school.
The announcement was made by Council Chairman Sesan Olowa in a recent conversation with the News Agency of Nigeria. He emphasized that this program is specifically designed to protect lives and belongings, with a particular focus on the children who are in these educational settings.
According to Olowa, strategically placed multi-agency security teams will be present at school entry points, on school grounds, and in the areas surrounding the schools. This heightened presence will enable a quick and efficient reaction to any urgent situations or potential dangers.
The security personnel involved in this operation come from a range of organizations, including the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, the Ibeju-Lekki Community Corps (Folumo), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Nigerian Forest Security Services.
Chairman Olowa called on school administrators, parents, and members of the local community to work together with the deployed security teams. He urged them to report any questionable activity or individuals seen near the schools without delay.
He further stated that his administration remains committed to prioritizing the welfare and security of children, and will continue to strengthen alliances with relevant organizations to maintain a secure and supportive learning environment.
In addition, Olowa noted that the council has begun conducting evaluations of security requirements at educational institutions to pinpoint any weaknesses and make sure that suitable safeguards are implemented to prevent potential threats.
The Chairman reassured the residents that this initiative is part of a larger, ongoing effort to foster a protected, tranquil, and supportive environment that promotes high-quality education and overall community progress throughout Ibeju-Lekki.
