Kendrick Lamar fans are branding Lil Wayne a hypocrite for criticizing those who are attacking Bill Belichick’s new coaching role at The University of North Carolina rather than simply congratulating him.

The sports community erupted with discussion after it was announced that the six-time Super Bowl champion from the New England Patriots had departed from the NFL to take a coaching position at UNC. And Weezy, an avid sports lover, disliked the criticisms.

“Big respect to the GOAT coach Bill Belichick!” he posted on X on Thursday (December 12). “Uncertain about their negativity, but I think it stems from jealousy and a group of people who can’t just express ‘congratulations’ or anything!” A knowledgeable person once stated, “You can love me or despise me, I assure you it won’t define me or ruin me…”

Kendrick’s fans quickly highlighted the hypocrisy in the remarks, as Wayne had a much different attitude when Kendrick was selected to perform at the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show in place of him.

“the humor in this tweet LMFAOOO,” someone commented. “‘Just a group of people who can’t seem to say congratulations easily,’ huh,” another person remarked.

Another individual remarked: “I concur, but you didn’t congratulate Kendrick or mention Nada!” Instead, your display of disappointment overshadowed his achievement.

In a September Instagram video, Lil Wayne shared his disappointment over not being invited to perform at the game in his hometown of New Orleans, revealing he felt “hurt” and “broken.”

“I hold myself accountable for not being psychologically ready for disappointment, and for instinctively placing myself in that role as if someone had indicated it was my role,” he stated.

“However, I believed there was nothing superior to that location and that stage and that platform in my city, so it pained me.” “It caused a great deal of pain.”

Kendrick Lamar subsequently responded to the controversy in his latest album GNX, rapping: “I used to listen to ‘Tha Carter 3,’ wore my Rollie chain with pride / Irony, I believe my efforts disappointed Lil Wayne.”

He also said: “I won the Super Bowl and Nas is the only one to applaud me / All these guys are upset, I’m just happy they revealed themselves / Honestly, many artists but they’re behind the times / Old-school styles, trying to persuade me that they’re their top choice.”

Weezy was not pleased with the lyrics, responding on X (formerly Twitter): “Dude, what did I do?!” I’m just relaxing and they still come for me. Let’s not confuse kindness with weakness. Allow this giant to rest. “I’m asking all of you.”

He similarly cautioned: “Nobody truly desires ruin, not even I, but I will cause destruction if provoked. Upon myself. Affection.”

Joe Budden stated that Wayne subsequently tried to reach Kendrick to resolve their problems, but the Compton rapper did not answer — leading the “A Milli” MC to craft an alternative reply.

“I’m hearing that Wayne entered the booth,” he remarked in a solemn tone.
