Following the tragic deaths of three immigration officers in a suspected Lakurawa terrorist assault in Bakin Ruwa last week, the Commissioner of Police of Kebbi State, CP Bello M. Sani, made a sympathetic trip to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Command in Birnin Kebbi on Monday.
The CP, accompanied by key members of his leadership team, arrived at the NIS command headquarters around 12:50 p.m. He met with Acting Comptroller DCO M.I. Chinoko to express his deep sorrow and offer condolences to the officers. CP Sani characterized the loss as a devastating blow that resonated throughout the entire security community.
During the visit, CP Sani conveyed his heartfelt prayers, asking that the Almighty grant the deceased officers eternal peace and provide their families with the fortitude to endure their profound grief.
He emphasized the shared nature of the tragedy, asserting that it was not solely a matter for the Immigration Service but a collective setback for all security organizations operating in the state.
“An injury to one is an injury to all,” he declared, underscoring the interconnectedness of the security agencies. “What impacts the Immigration Service also affects the Police, as we are unified in our commitment to protecting Kebbi State.”
The CP reiterated the unified commitment of all security agencies to escalate their efforts against criminal elements and further protect the state.
“Our dedication to ensuring the safety and security of our citizens and their property remains absolute,” he affirmed.
In response, Acting Comptroller Chinoko expressed his sincere gratitude for the show of solidarity. He commended the Police Commissioner for demonstrating “leadership by example” through his presence.
“Your visit during this trying time speaks volumes about your character and dedication. We are grateful for your support and your commitment to strengthening collaboration and teamwork among security agencies in Kebbi State,” Chinoko stated.
The visit concluded with a special prayer service led by the Command’s Chief Imam, ASP Suleiman Baffa, for the souls of the fallen officers.
The NIS confirmed on Saturday the killing of the three officers by suspected Lukarawa terrorists in Kebbi State.
News reports indicate that the terrorists targeted the officers at a checkpoint in Bakin Ruwa, located along the Maje border in the Bagudo Local Government Area. According to local residents, the armed attackers stormed the immigration checkpoint and opened fire on the officers who were on duty, resulting in their immediate deaths.
