Kanye West juggles multiple roles as a rapper, fashion designer, and business mogul, yet his hectic schedule still permits him the occasional lengthy video gaming session.
In an uncommon update on his Instagram Stories on Wednesday (January 1), Ye — who has just made a comeback to social media — posted a brief video of himself enjoying the renowned action-adventure game The Last of Us Part II, seemingly his favorite of all time.
In his post, the 47-year-old rapper disclosed that he had invested multiple hours in the game, stating: “Last of Us 2 on survivor+ difficulty has me using up the entire day on a single level.” By a long, long way, this is the greatest game ever created to date. “This post is not sponsored.”
Ye has been highly interested in video games since he was young and even once asked Nintendo to create a game featuring him.
Gaming journalist Zachary Ryan reported that in 2015, Kanye pitched a game idea to Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto, featuring players guiding his deceased mother Donda West on her journey to heaven.
The G.O.O.D. Music creator revealed the game, Only One, two weeks later at a Yeezy fashion show in New York, prior to a trailer being showcased at E3 in 2016.
The game is still unreleased, and there has been no information on its progress since 2016.
It was subsequently disclosed that Nintendo declined the opportunity to collaborate with the rap legend on a project.
In a 2020 episode of the Talking Games With Reggie and Harold podcast, Reggie Fils-Aimé, the former president and COO of Nintendo of America, discussed why a collaboration with Kanye wasn’t appropriate at that moment.
“Some of it involved discussing what he was doing,” he stated. “He was trying out a segment of video game material.” He desired responses to it. He emerges and states, ‘I wish to collaborate with Nintendo.’
“We were involved in numerous different projects at Nintendo, so the chance to collaborate with Kanye simply wasn’t feasible, and I needed to find a way to graciously turn down this opportunity to partner with him.”
I said to him, ‘Kanye, you’re not interested in collaborating with us because we’re strict, we’re intense. Our only goal is to strive for the highest quality content. “We would not be the kind of partner you would wish to collaborate with,” Fils-Aimé went on.
“And he gazes at me and states, ‘Reggie, you’re precisely the kind of partner I desire for that reason!’” It’s as if, ‘Wow.’”
