The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate for 2023, Atiku Abubakar, has criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the country’s economic problems as Nigeria marks 25 years of continuous democracy.

Every year on June 12, people celebrate democracy. Nigeria is currently experiencing a high rate of poverty due to numerous security issues. The former vice president claimed that the people of Nigeria had suffered throughout the previous nine years of the APC government in a message to the country on Tuesday.

“A regime of extreme hardship manifested in excruciating poverty and unprecedented levels of violence and insecurity upon our people over the past nine years,” the speaker declared.

“Sadly, this dawn of gloom is a result of the ruling All Progressives Congress.” He chastised the opposition parties for not presenting a governance plan that would win over Nigerians, even as he criticized them for failing to come together and build a coalition capable of toppling the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to Atiku, remembering the history of our protracted quest to become a stable democratic society is one of the secondary goals of June 12 being declared as Democracy Day in Nigeria. The former vice president declared that democracy is the only acceptable form of administration.

Even though our current democratic system has been in place for 25 years, it would still be appropriate to honor the sacrifices made by numerous patriots, most notably Alfred Rewane, Tafida Shehu Yar’Adua, and Basorun MKO Abiola and his adored wife, Alhaja (Mrs.) Kudirat Abiola. “The political leaderships of that era formed a number of coalitions and alliances to flush away the remnants of military and dictatorial governance in order to return power to the people,” according to the historical timeline of the battle that gave rise to this democracy.

It is good that we have had a season of political politics without interruption for 25 years. It is a historical era unlike any other. “It is cause for celebration, and our wonderful nation’s citizens deserve praise.” I also have to commend the political class and civil society for having accepted the morality of preserving democracy. It is imperative that all relevant parties persist in contributing to the sustenance of our democratic system.
