Jim Jones believes that sneaker culture originated with drug dealers in the past, and he thinks it has evolved into something entirely unique since then.

On Thursday (January 2), the Dipset rapper posted a note on Instagram that stated: “Sneaker culture began with drug dealers, argue with your mom.”

He expanded on the caption, saying: “Who created Nike and Reebok’s style and prior to that, Puma and Adidas. Michael Jordan created them, but the drug dealers motivated me to purchase them. These days, many basketball sneakers are no longer stylish, which is why numerous sneaker brands are struggling at the moment.

“I’m observing all these strange guys presenting sneaker shows and sneaker reviews who never had to work hard to obtain a pair; they don’t understand the excitement and risk involved.” Many of them never owned a pair of Jordans when they were released; they only bought retros.

Consistently vocal about his opinions, Jim Jones also recently commented on Nas’ influence in the broader Hip Hop scene, pointing out that the rapper “transformed it all.”

The rapper visited The GAUDS Show with Ray Daniels in late October and discussed Nasty Nas’ impact on contemporary rap music.

He started: “In the ’90s, the arrows were beginning to change. And it was Nas who changed the arrows. No one truly comprehends how this operates. Nas arrived with a unique style, an alternative rhyme scheme, and a distinct rhythm that was untouchable. The subjects he discussed were ones that were very important to the younger generation that was actively living and emerging at that time.

“These were my high school years, and he was discussing things that we thoroughly enjoyed doing.” However, his unique style of rhyming added an entirely different pace to it. He was ahead of his time with that stuff. When he did that, many of the veteran rappers couldn’t adapt their flows, which eliminated them, leading to an entirely new generation of rap music that we hear now.

He mentioned that Nas transformed rap with his verse on Main Source’s “Live at the Barbeque.”
