Malam Umar Namadi, the governor of Jigawa state, pledged to lower the state’s poverty rate by ten percent by year’s end.

The revelation came from the governor during a speech marking the beginning of a large-scale delivery of resources for economic empowerment to women and young people in Ringim town, the state’s center for the Ringim local government area.

According to Malam Umar Namadi, “one of the 12 points on this administration’s agenda is an economic empowerment and poverty reduction program.” We shall use every effort to accomplish the desired goal.

“The state government came up with so many programs in an effort to achieve the desired goals in addition to establishing an agency for youth employment and economic empowerment to ensure successful implementation of the projects,” he claims.

“J-Cares offers empowerment; NG-Cares has a project in collections; the Danmodi Mobilization Group offers empowerment; and the state offers economic empowerment. The State’s Youth Employment and Economic Empowerment, J-CARES, and NG-CARES programs encourage the public to focus more on the agriculture industry.

“On the other hand, the Danmodi Mobilization Group’s project places special attention on the young people who supported the party (APC) throughout the campaign. We started this to provide them the tools they need to become independent and self-sufficient.

Malam Namadi insisted that by assisting small enterprises and local trade in both rural and urban regions, the state administration will carry out its plans and additional measures to lower the poverty rate by ten percent in the ensuing years.

According to the governor, “our plans are to reduce youth migration from rural to urban areas, reduce criminal activity, and improve security throughout the state and county.”

“Under NG-CARES and the state’s economic empowerment initiative, we have provided financial support and business equipment to over 90,000 persons, the majority of whom are vulnerable women and youth. While the Danmodi Mobilization Group provided help to approximately 21,000 youth.

The state government’s Create Millionaires program has produced 27 new millionaires, each receiving N10 million; approximately 45,000 have collected N50,000 each; over 100 have been granted loan facilities for tricycles; over 400 youth have received training in the construction and maintenance of hand pumps; thousands of dry-season wheat and rice farmers are part of the Fadama irrigation farming program; and so on.

As a result, he cautioned the beneficiaries to take full advantage of the opportunity and set a positive example for the next generation instead of selling the equipment.
